The conference venue

The ETSF 2018 will be held at the Center for Free-Electron Laser Science (CFEL) in Hamburg, Germany. The CFEL is a joint enterprise of University Hamburg, Deutsches Elektron-Synchrotron (DESY) and Max-Planck-Society. CFEL envisions uncovering the dynamics of matter by uniting expertise from various disciplines and research institutions into a new interdisciplinary and synergistic effort. Located on the DESY campus which is one of the most prominent research location in Europe, the interdisciplinary expertise present during the conference will be outstanding.

Hamburg, ‘Pearl’ of the German north, is a cultural, scientific and economic singularity in northern Germany. Its unique nautical and cultural atmosphere, leads to the fastest rising touristic interest in Europe.

Get to YRM 2018

By Plane

The Hamburg international airport (HAM) is well connected to all major destinations in Europe. Conference accommodation and CFEL can be reached by public transport in 30 and 60 minutes.

By Train

Central train station and Hamburg Altona are connected to the German high-speed train-network offered by https://www.bahn.com/en/view/index.shtml

By Bus

Long-distance lines destinate close to central station and are linked to the local public transport. International connections are for example offered by FlixBus https://www.flixbus.co.uk

Accomodation

will take place at the Hotel Budapester Hof in central Hamburg with convenient connections to CFEL, central station and cultural highlights.

Rooms are booked for five nights, featuring two-bed occupation.

Directions to the Hotel

From the Airport

You either take the S1 } to Barmbek and then change to U3 in direction Wandsbek-Gartenstadt to Feldstra\ss e. In this case you'll have to walk about 500 m to the hotel.

Or take the S1 to Reeperbahn and walk 1 km to the hotel (and see parts of Hamburg's famous red-light and party district)

From Hamburg main station

Take the U3 in direction Barmbek to Feldstraße and walk the remaining 500 m.

Directions to the Conference Site (CFEL)

From the Airport

The most convenient way is to take the S1 to Altona and conitue by bus number 2 to Luruper Chaussee (DESY).

From Hamburg main station

You either take the bus number 3 in direction Schenefeld or Stadionstraße S21 to Luruper Chaussee (DESY).

or first take S21 or S31 to Holstenstraße and then change to bus number 3 to Luruper Chaussee (DESY).
